Writers Block. Its the kryptonite to every writer whether they are a best seller published author or a novice writer just starting out. The key is what you do about it. First step is to identify the cause of the writers block because that will better help you overcome it.

Distractions - We are in a very multi-tasking, electronics, social media world that is full of distractions. Distractions is the easiest to solve writer's block. Log out of Facebook. Silence the app notifications on your phone. Turn off the TV. In order to focus on your writing - you need a quiet distraction free environment.

Environment - Your surroundings will play a huge role in writer's block. In order to bring forth your best creative effort you need a creative space. Have a designated writing space at home that is clean organized and fun. Writing on the go? Great! But be sure its not a "busy" location and when I say busy I mean mentally stimulating. A small cafe usually works better than a busy restaurant or food court. A park bench generally works better than a train station. If your environment has your mind going a million miles an hour, you need to find a better location where you can slow down physically and mentally and focus on your writing at hand.

Mind Blank - Sometimes you have the perfect space and you are distraction free and your mind is just blank. Your creative juices just didn't flow today. Your brain battery needs a jump start. We have all been there! So how can you fix it? Sometimes creating a plot outline will help jump start and other times creating a character profile will trigger your writer's mind. Sometimes a detour is exactly what you need. Planning on writing chapter 3 today but nothing's there? Worked on a plot outline and character mapping and still nothing? That's OK! Today's not the day for Chapter 3 ... but maybe you can get your synopsis done, or your cover created, or get chapter 5 done instead!

You do you - Ultimately you can read every How to overcome writer's block blog, book, journal, whatever out there - but only you can figure out what works for you! For me personally, Sticky notes are the key! I carry sticky notes in my bag and every time I have a sprout of an idea I jot it down. Then when i get home I stick them to the wall and rearrange them 1, 2, 100 times until the juices are flowing and suddenly my fingers are going thousand miles an hour on the keyboard. A good friend of mine hates Sticky notes with a passion and laughs at the literal thousands I have stuck everywhere in my writing nook. She is an old-fashion pen and paper writer and will write by hand and then when she is blocked she will transfer from notebook to her Mac book, editing as she goes. Before she is finished, she usually is back to the notebook writing away with the writer's block a distant memory.

The most important thing is to just get writing! Just keep Writing! Every diamond used to be an unpolished lump of coal that was under a lot of pressure. Best wishes to you!
